Sunday In the Orchid House ~ Tucson Botanical Gardens

Ceremony ~ Leslie Marmon Silko, 1977

Ts'its'tsi'nako, Thought-Woman,
is sitting in her room
and whatever she thinks about
appears.

Thought-Woman, the spider,
named things and
as she named them
they appeared.

She is sitting in her room
thinking of a story now

I'm telling you the story
she is thinking.

Anthropologies, Beth Alvarado

"And now I see, I see the house in Hayward as the place where silence starts, a place where things happened that everyone wants to forget. You could write a novel about it--my aunt Dorothy sighs--it would be an American tragedy." ~ From Anthropologies, Beth Alvarado. Available now at Amazon: Anthropologies

Carolyn Kizer ~ 1925-

"You want to be very careful when you criticize {new, eccentric work}... because it may be the hallmark of an emerging style." He {Roethke} knew that our eccentricities are part of our true voice."
